Speedway Surprise

This is Sara - guest blogging on our family blog...just wanted to post some news about Tim while he isn't hogging the computer :). This past Saturday, Tim was honored at the Estevan Motor Speedway Banquet for his volunteering and contribution to the speedway. If you know Tim at all you will know that he is
very passionate about racing, race cars and racetracks. He often, when planning trips with his brother, will include a stop at a new track or at a museum dedicated to cars and racing. He may even have talked his wife and kids into riding around the track with him at Indianapolis several years ago. :)  So when the track president came and told me he was being honored it was fun to surprise him with the 2014 Clint Prette Memorial Award, a visit from his entire family from Moose Jaw and some local friends too. This was the first time the award had been given to a 'non-driver' and so it was a really nice honor.  As usual Tim was really humbled by the whole thing and really felt like there were lots of people who had been out there working hard for longer than he had.  Tim flags the staging lane, conducts the pit meeting for all the drivers, and says the prayer to start the races. I am just super proud of him for getting involved in his community and being so willing to help out with anything out at the track. Congrats honey...and so glad we got to keep it a surprise until the night of the award....it was no small feat. Thanks family and friends who joined us to celebrate.

Another project

So here is another project for me to work on.  Not sure if it runs or not, but I am sure it is worth every penny I paid for it.  ;)

Montana motorcycle Pics

In early September, my brother (aka "Lenny") and I spent a week riding through Montana and Idaho.  It was cold and we had a few issues (see posts below), but I still got a few pictures.  Here is a sampling of some things that will make me smile when it is -40 in January.

Motel in Miles City.... our first night on the road (and the parking lot where I ran over my glasses.  Again, if you missed that story, see posts below)

 

When we realized it was going to be too cold and rainy to ride "Yellowstone National Park", we dropped down into Idaho and went to "Craters of the Moon National Monument".  Very interesting!  Old lava flows... caves... huge rocks.... crazy!

 A Lenny in his natural habitat.... a flea bag, smelly, cheap motel room (at least this is his natural habitat when he is touring with me..... I wish you could have smelled most of them... think less "daisies" and more "rotting mouse flesh")

 Motel in Deer Lodge, Montana.  The "Old Montana State Prison" here is very cool.

 

Virginia City and Nevada City are two old "Ghost towns/tourist traps" - most of the shops were closed but is was still a good place to stop too

 

And - again - the glasses that I broke and then zip-tied and duct taped onto the frames of some magnifying glasses that I bought.  Rode through most of Montana like this (story below).  These are now in the "Pippus Brothers Bike Trip Museum" (aka a shelf in my garage.  They will make a good sermon illustration of something some day)

Fast N' Loud

Last week I was in Dallas, Texas for a conference and while I was there I realized that I was only 10 miles from "Gas Monkey Garage".

For those who do not know, it is the hot rod shop from Discovery Channel's "Fast N' Loud".  It is one of my favorite shows on TV, so I convinced Jason (the dude I was traveling with) to run by the shop so that I could look around, buy a shirt in the gift shop etc.

These pictures may not mean anything to you, but they make me smile.

Anyone else watch the show?  Anyone????  (Top rated car show on TV - just so you know). 


Note the burnout marks in the parking lot.... evidence of past test drives after they get done a build.

The "Swag Van" that they take to car shows and stuff.... sell t-shirts and stuff.... I saw the episode where they built this van so that was sort of cool
